About

patfancygirlHi, there! I’m Patricia Alix-Villa.

I’m an artist and digital designer, and the owner of Fancy Girl Design Studio. Thank you for stopping by.  Won’t you come in, have a cup of tea with me, and stay a while? I’d like to get to know you better.

I suppose, though, you’re here to know a little about me. So here’s a little bit:

Web design wasn’t what I initially set out to do. Growing up, I had dreams of becoming a princess and an archeologist. Being neither born to royal parents or having the desire to actually dig under dirt, I decided to be an artist instead — after my brief stint as a psychologist. (Go figure.)

I taught Psychology for 7 years before changing careers and pursuing my passion.  I’m a published author of scientific articles and I’ve spoken at an international conference; I also received the Fulbright Scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in Psych at the University of Massachusetts.

Left all that and couldn’t be happier!

Today, I’m a solopreneur and work at home mom.

Now, don’t mistake me for being a super-mom.

Trust me, I’m not.

When I’m PMS-ing, I clean and organize my home and rearrange the furniture.  Sometimes I even paint the walls.  Yes, all by myself.  It’s very therapeutic, you should try it. =)

I’m addicted to Apple products and I have every conceivable Apple gadget, all of them I cannot live without.  The moment I got my iMac, I was hopelessly hooked.  I even miss it when I go on vacation, and I have a macbook for when I do.

As I said, today, I’m a work-at-home mom, an avid supporter of breastfeeding and attachment parenting. I work from home and do graphic design because I love what I do and I want to be able to stay home with the kids instead of working outside.  I’m able to do all this because my “office” is inside the children’s playroom.  Shooting nerf guns while writing codes is one of my talents!

Why “Fancy Girl”?

I’m an artist at heart. I’ve been painting and designing as far back as I can remember, but I learned how to web design quite by accident. I just wanted to know how to prettify my own site. Then I discovered that I loved web design, and had tons of fun doing it! So I taught myself CSS, HTML, PHP and all the other necessary tricks of the trade.  I’m continuously learning, updating my knowledge, improving my skills, and I absolutely love it!

And that’s how Fancy Girl Designs was born.

I’ve always been passionate about art and beauty, love and life. My taste is eclectic, and I love to experiment with different media.   Lately I’ve traded my paintbrushes with Photoshop and Illustrator, and I’m having so much fun, I can’t stop!

My business is my passion, and it has so much of myself in it that I cannot imagine anyone else taking over or running it for me. Fancy Girl is me and I am Fancy Girl. The name Fancy Girl Designs was suggested by a friend who believes that I am a fancy girl. Truth be told, I am. Totally. I love fancy things, pretty things, and I’m outrightly girly, even if I don’t like sappy romantic movies or anything with a smidgen of Nicholas Sparks.  If I had my way, my office will be covered in pink damask wallpaper and I’d have a pink crystal chandelier above my iMac!

In a nutshell, I like to prettify everything. (Yes, even when I’m PMS-ing). My design aesthetic is unabashedly, distinctly feminine.  Maybe it’s because I’m a mom to two sweet, rambunctious boys — there’s too much testosterone in my home!  Fancy Girl Design Studio is like my baby girl, and I pour in all my girliness into my projects, whether personal or for clients.

I hope you’ll have a look at my online studio and see something you like. So sit back, relax, and join me for a cup of tea. Let’s talk all things beautiful.

Cheers!

Patricia Alix-Villa
