Archives for Blog

I just love it when the client and I have similar tastes and have a great understanding of how each one works.  The whole design process is so smooth, it’s almost magical.

I have had the pleasure of working with Martine of DaintyMom.com on 3 of her previous blog makeovers, so when she approached me for her 4th, I was eager to jump at the chance to work with her again.  She showed me this inspiration board:

and a couple of layout ideas:

We picked the first layout because it was cleaner, and was easier to make mobile responsive than the other one.  Martine really wanted a watercolor flower on her header, so I made one for her (using my son’s watercolor paints!).  Here is the design concept that she finally approved:

And this is how it looks on her site:

I’ve had the pleasure of working with an amazing young woman for her site design lately. Her name is Riana Lago, and she blogs over at AbsolutelySavvy.me.  When her mom approached me earlier this month to design her site, I was blown over by her age (she’s only 13!) and how refreshingly ambitious and talented this girl is.

Her mom showed me a magazine that she designed for her birthday, and I must say she’s a natural! Her style is very funky but girly, as befits a girl her age.  See her work below:

Fantastic, right?

To give her a consistent brand message, I designed her site to match the magazine layout she made.

This is based on the Metro theme from Studiopress, which is a fantastic child theme that’s fully mobile-responsive and has a magazine layout for the homepage. The color scheme, fonts, and widget titles all coordinate with the design that Riana did for her own magazine.

Probably the most popular Studiopress theme among my clients is the Adorable theme by PrettyDarnCute Design.

And no wonder because not only is the layout extremely versatile, it is also mobile-responsive and very easy on the eyes.  I personally love the white space, and how current the look is.  It is also very easy to customize.  My clients love that the homepage is fully widgetized, so you can have a magazine-style layout if you wanted to, but it also has the option of having a standard blog layout.

Just take a look at these themes I’ve made for some of my clients, all of them based on the Adorable theme:

Logo Design for KatCakes Manila

it has a very whimsical and sweet look, perfect for a baking business!

The client also ordered a matching business card design, and Facebook Timeline Cover:

This is the 3rd theme I made for daintymom.com. You can tell we love working together, right? =) It’s built on the Adorable theme from Studiopress.  It features a header and navbars that span across the whole width of the site.  Oh, it’s mobile-responsive too! I kept the same color scheme as her previous theme, but lightened it a bit. Here are the previous themes I made for daintymom:

Every once in a while I get to do a project that I absolutely love. This is one of those times. =) I just love the vintage/shabby chic look of this logo! The letters and flourishes were drawn in Illustrator and put together in Photoshop, where I also added the textures and styling.
